HE 4
(Human epididymis protein)
Material: | 1 ml serum |
Methods: | Ligandenassays → Chemilumineszenz Mikropartikel Immunoassay (CMIA) | Reference range | Premenopausal: < 70 pmol/l Postmenopausal: < 140 pmol/l |
Indication | Early-detection and course of progress of ovarian carcinoma and recurrence of the same (in combination with CA 125; ROMA-index). Useful combinations in case of suspected mucinous ovarian carcinoma: CA 72-4, in case of germ cell tumors of the ovary: AFP. |
Please note | Human epididymis protein 4 (HE 4) is a glycoprotein, expressed in the male and female reproduction tract and in the lung epithelia. HE 4 elevations in serum are mainly seen in serous and endometrioid ovarian carcinomas and in endometrium carcinomas, but also to a lesser extent in benign gynecological illnesses. In case of ovarian carcinoma, HE 4 can be elevated independent of CA 125 and therefore increases diagnostic sensitivity and specificity (together with CA 125; ROMA-index). |
