CA 125
Material: | 1 ml serum (stability in serum at 4°C – 8°C: 5 days) 1 ml lithium-heparin plasma, EDTA-plasma |
Methods: | Ligandenassays → Chemilumineszenz-Immunoassay (CLIA) | Reference range | < 35 U/ml |
Indication | Early detection of recurrences and progress checks of ovarial carcinoma (with HE 4). Useful combinations on suspicion of mucinous ovarial carcinoma: CA 72-4, or on suspicion of germ cell tumors of the ovaries: AFP. |
Please note | CA 125 is known to have a high rate of false-positive results. Increased values are found in case of inflammations in the pelvic region (adnexitis, peritoneal problems etc.) and in endometriosis, also during pregnancy. CA 125 should be combined with HE 4 (ROMA-index) to increase sensitivity and specificity. |
