Indication: Cervicitis, adnexitis
- On request of “pathogenic germs“, the following tests will be performed: Microscopy, aerobic and anaerobic cultures as well as examination for neisseria gonorrhea, mycoplasma, ureaplasma and yeasts. A gardnerella selective culture will only be performed in expectant women. On detection of clinically relevant pathogens an antibiogram will be performed (resistance determination may be limited to 2 germs).
- For the examination of gonococcus sensitive DNA-probe is recommended. For this a special extraction equipment is required (see below).
- The same applies for examinations for chlamydia, herpes- and HPV-DNA (PCR), which require material collection with special extraction equipment (see material order form) and have to be explicitly requested.
- The smear should only be taken by using a speculum. Lubricants should not be used as they might contain antibacterial substances.
Description: Smear for pathogenic germs:
- Once the speculum is in place, please dry the cervix with a sterile swab.
- Insert the thin smear swab approximately 1-2 cm into the cervical canal and gently turn it. After this place it into the transport medium.
Smear for gonococcus with special extraction equipment:
- Remove surplus mucus from the cervix by using the enclosed smear swab, then reject smear.
- Insert second swab into the endocervical canal. Rotate swab in endocervical canal for 10-30 seconds.
- Carefully remove swab, avoiding contact with vaginal mucosa and insert into the transport tube.
Chlamydia, - Herpes- and HPV-Smear:
- Insert special swab into the cervical canal at a minimum of 1-2 cm and turn it. Crucial for a successful evidence of pathogens is the harvesting of a sufficient number of cells.
- The probability of detecting Chlamydia rises with an additional urethral smear.
