Indication: Wound infection
- On request of “pathogenic germs“, a direct preparation will be microscopically evaluated and there will be aerobic and anaerobic cultivation. On detection of clinically relevant pathogens an antibiogram will be performed (resistance determination may be limited to 2 germs).
- Examinations for fungus or actinomycetes have to be specially requested.
- On suspicion of gas gangrene the laboratory is to be pre-notified by telephone.
Description:
- We will inform of the microscopic results by telephone.
- To avoid an overgrowth of cultures by contaminating germs, superficial secretion and coating should be removed using a swab, which has been dipped into sterile physiological salt solution.
- Following this, a swab is taken from the edges or base of the wound and send to us using the transport medium.
