Indication:
Parasitosis caused by nematodes (roundworms), cestodes (tapeworms), trematodes (sucking worms), amoeba, giardia lamblia, cryptosporidia, cyclospora, microsporidia and other protozoa.
- On suspicion of oxyuris, evidence of eggs should not be sought by stool sample but by anal tape testing preparation, potentially, in case of suspicion of tenia, in addition to stool evaluation. Please refer to “anal tape testing preparation” and sections “oxyuriasis (pinworm, seatworm)” in the analysis directory.
- Transfer stool (without mixed in urine) into the sample tube with the enclosed sample spoon.
- Required stool amount: Approximately 5g. This equals filling about 1/3 of the sample tube. If the patient produces more stool, the material should be taken from the softer sections of the stool.
- The sample tube should only be filled by 1/3.
- A minimum of three stool samples, whereby the gap in between sample collection should be 1-3 days, are recommended. By doing this, the fluctuating and sometimes very low parasite secretion is taken into account.
- The transportation time to the laboratory should not exceed one day (no transportation on weekends). Until collection of the sample by the courier driver, the sample should be kept refrigerated.
Please note:
For evaluation of vegetative forms (amoeba and lamblia) the sample will need to be taken to the laboratory whilst it is still body-warm. |
