Description |
- For serum samples, the double amount of whole blood is required. For instance, to get 2ml of serum 4-5ml of whole blood needs to be collected.
- After taking the blood sample the blood should be kept at room temperature for approximately 30 min but no longer than 1 hour until it is fully clotted. Following this 10 min of centrifugation at 2000 x g (approximately 3000 rpm) should take place. If a tube without divider gel is used, the supernatant fluid (serum) has to be transferred into a transport tube.
- Potassium, phosphorus and LDH are usually higher in the serum than in heparin plasma, especially if the timeframe in between taking of blood and centrifugation is longer than 30 min
