Calcium stimulation test on suspicion of C-cell carcinoma
Indication | The stimulation test with Pentagastrin cannot be recommended any longer due to the unavailability of the test and its lack of approval in Germany. The alternatively available calcium stimulation test is difficult to interpret due to its missing valid reference ranges. Lately however, a highly sensitive calcitonin assay is available, which allows diagnosis of C-cell hyperplasia or C-cell carcinoma even without stimulation (please refer to section “Calcitonin”). |
