First Trimester Down screening
Material: | 2 ml serum. Plain blood is not suitable, only serum. Because of the instability of the free b chain of HCG the blood should be centrifuged within 30-40 min after blood witdrawal , however the coagulation should be completed. The sample must be stored in the fridge and sent to the laboratory within 48 h. For the calculation of the multiples of medians (MOM) values the week of gestation, CRL (crown rump length) of the fetus and weight of the mother are required. | Reference range | See report |
Please note | The analysis includes the measurement of free ßHCG anf PAPP-A. Based on the results of the biochemical analysis and sonographic data of nuchal translucency (NT) a risk calculation for Down syndrome is performed. The screening is only possible in gestation between 11+3 and 13+6 weeks. For an accurate risk assessment, a complete first trimester questionnaire is needed (see forms). A consent form is mandatory. A reduced GFR causes a flasely elevated risk for Down-syndrome! |
