Parathyroid hormone-related protein
(PTHrP)
Material: | 1 ml EDTA plasma. The blood should be centrifuged within one hour after blood taking. Send the plasma frozen. Please order cooling cell. | Reference range | < 4,0 pmol/l |
Indication | DD of hypercalcemia, especially paraneoplastic hypercalcemia |
Please note | PTHrP is secreted in supraphysiological levels by various tumors and causes paraneoplastic hypercalcemia via activation of the classic parathormone receptor in the kidneys and bones. Tumors associated with PTHrP-related hypercalcemia are esp. lung-, kidney-, bladder, mammary- and esophaguscarcinoma. Cave: As PTHrP is mainly cleared via the kidneys, a decreased glomerular filtration rate can also cause elevated plasma levels! |
