| Please note | The sensitivity of dipsticks is at 60 mg/dl and is often insufficient for capturing renal early damage. Accordingly, evaluation of microalbuminuria or evaluation of total protein concentration in either spontaneous urine or 24-hour urine with a more sensitive method is recommended to rule out proteinuria. A further differentiation between glomerular and tubular proteinuria or mixed type can be done by urine protein differentiation. On suspicion of Bence-Jones-proteinuria (often not captured by dipsticks), an immunofixation electrophoresis in serum and urine is recommended. Further evaluation of proteinuria: Erythrocyte morphology in fresh urine, bacterial and cytological urine tests. |
