Nugent-Score
(Gram’s stain score for bacterial vaginosis)
Material: | Vaginal swab, vaginal secretion |
Methods: | Mikroskopie → Hellfeldmikroskopie |
Indication | Suspicion of bacterial vaginosis, pregnancy screening to prevent premature rupture of the membranes/premature birth. |
Please note | Bacterial vaginosis is a dysbiosis of the vaginal microbiota. It is associated with an increased risk for sexually transmitted infections (STI), ascending gynecological infections as well as for premature rupture of membranes and premature birth in pregnancy. In the Gram’s stain score according to Nugent, the vaginal secretion is microscopically tested for its microbial composition (lactobacillus, gram-negative rods like gardnerella/prevotella, mobiluncus) and is entered in an evaluation score according to points. A score of 0 – 3 points: no indication of bacterial vaginosis |
