| Please note | Methylphenidate (Ritalin) is a psychostimulant and is used for the treatment of ADHS (Attention deficit hyperactivity syndrome) as well as narcolepsy. It works by inhibiting the re-uptake of noradrenalin and dopamine. Typical side effects are sleep disorders, loss of appetite and hyperhidrosis. In case of overdosing, there may be psychosis and seizures. Caution: Due to the addiction potential, ritalin is subject to the law governing the use and traffic of drugs! The inactive metabolite ritalic acid is determined automatically and free of charge. Due to the short half-life (approximately 1 – 3 hours) of the parent substance, ritalic acid is suitable for the monitoring of intake, however does not provide any information about the effect level of methylphenidate in serum. |
