Methyl histamine
(1,4-methylimidazole acetic acid, metabolite of histamine in the urine)
Material: | 10 ml urine or 10 ml of 24-hour urine, collected over 5 – 10 ml glacial acetic acid. On the day prior to sample collection, please refrain from having histamine rich foods such as cheese, salami, red wine, beer and cured ham. | Reference range | 0,5 – 3,0 mg/g Crea < 3,8 mg/d |
Indication | Mastocytosis, suspicion of acute allergic reaction or an allergic reaction a few hours before |
Please note | Circulating histamine is degraded to methyl histamine quickly. Accordingly, if a short-term release of histamine is suspected, the determination of methyl histamine in urine or tryptase in serum is more meaningful than that of histamine in blood. |
