Macro enzymes
Material: | 2 ml serum | Reference range | Please refer to findings report |
Indication | Unclear activity increase in serum without clinical correlate |
Please note | Macro enzymes are macromolecular complexes of enzymes with serum substances, mainly immunoglobulins. Macro enzymes should be considered in case of unclear, clinically non-plausible enzyme activity increases, especially of the alpha-amylase (prevalence approximately 1 %), lipase (extremely rare), alkaline phosphatase (prevalence approximately 3 per thousand), LDH (very rare), GOT (rare) and CK (prevalence approximately 3 %, especially older persons), ranging from twice to four times the respective upper normal value. Due to the slower degradation and elimination rate of macro enzymes, there is an increase in the respective enzyme activity in the serum. |
