Lassa virus infection
Material: | Antibody demonstration: 2 ml serum, 0,5 ml CSF |
Methods: | Ligandenassays → Immunfluoreszenzassay (IFA) | Criteria for evaluation | < 1:20 titer | Mandatory reporting | ja The laboratory has to report any direct and indirect demonstration to the responsible health department, stating the patient’s name. The treating physician has to report suspicion of virus-induced hemorrhagic fever as well as illness and death. |
Please note | Reported cases in West Africa in the past few years. Infection by ingestion of food contaminated with urine of infected animals (rats). Incubation period is between 8 and 14 days.
