Cryptococcosis

Indication | Suspicion of pulmonary mycosis, especially in HIV-infections. It often comes to dissemination and Cryptococcus meningitis in these patients. |
Please note | Global incidence, ubiquitous, found in high concentrations in dried bird droppings and its aerosols. Mostly inapparent pulmonary mycosis. The infection can lead to hematogenic meningoencephalitis. Cryptococcoses are mainly seen in immunosuppressed patients with T-cell defect and belong to the AIDS defining illnesses. Uncharacteristic skin changes as manifestation of cryptococcosis are common. Cryptococcosis through an injury can remain localized. Method of choice is antigen-demonstration. An additional cultural demonstration should always be sought.
