Cryoglobulins
Material: | Collect 8 – 10 ml whole blood in a preheated monovette tube and let it set at 37°C (incubator or water bath). After 30 min centrifuge for 5 minutes. Send serum. |
Indication | Raynaud phenomenon, cyanosis when exposed to cold, circulatory problems, hearing and visual problems, peripheral neuropathies, autoimmune disorders (SLE, Sjögren syndrome and others), monoclonal gammopathy, Waldenström’s disease, chronic lymphatic leukemia. Cryoglobulins often occur in case of viral infections such as hepatitis C, infectious mononucleosis, cytomegalovirus infection etc. |
Comment | Concurrent testing of Cryofibrinogen is useful. |
Please note | Cryoglobulins are immunoglobulins, most commonly IgM but also IgG and IgA, which reversibly bind to each other at temperatures below 37°C and precipitate. |
