Interleukin-1-risk allele
Material: | 1 ml EDTA-blood, dry swab of the oral cavity with sterile swab. Please note that a declaration of consent is required for this test! |
Methods: | Amplifikationsverfahren → Real-time-PCR |
Indication | Confirmed genetic periodontitis predisposition, severe refractory progression of periodontitis, prognostic evaluation prior to treatment |
Please note | Macrophages and lymphocytes, activated by plaque, produce inflammatory mediators such as cytokines. One of these cytokines, the interleukin-1 (IL-1), is of key importance to periodontitis progression due to its bone-resorbing effect. The presence of interleukin-1-risk allele is associated with a 7- to 19-fold increased likelihood of developing severe periodontitis. Interleukin-1-risk allele can be demonstrated in up to 80 % of patients with severe forms of periodontitis. |
