Material: | Pathogen demonstration: Walnut-sized stool sample of three different days, each 2 – 3 days apart. Samples containing hymenolepis nana eggs are potentially infectious, thus caution is required. |

Please note | Worldwide dissemination with preference to warm countries. Infection pathway via contaminated foods, autoinfection, human-to-human infection. Often only minor symptoms, problems in the region of the gastrointestinal tract with abdominal pains, diarrhea and other non-characteristic symptoms. Especially in children, there may be major infestation with severe abdominal pains, diarrhea, anorexia and blood eosinophilia. Prepatency is 2 – 4 weeks. Serological testing is irrelevant for diagnosis. |
