HOMA-IR (evaluation of insulin resistance)
Material: | Fasting glucose: 3 ml sodium fluoride blood 1,5 ml sodium fluoride plasma 3,1 ml GlucoEXACT Immediate centrifugation of the sodium fluoride blood and sending of the sodium fluoride plasma would be the optimum.
Fasting insulin: 1 ml serum In case of a longer transport, the sample should be frozen. |
Methods: |
Ligandenassays → Chemilumineszenz-Immunoassay (CLIA) Spektrometrie → UV- / VIS-Photometrie | Reference range | A HOMA-IR of ≤ 1 is normal. A HOMA-IR between 1 and 2,5 points toward beginning insulin resistance. In case of a HOMA-IR of ≥ 2,5 a manifest insulin resistance has to be assumed. |
Indication | Adiposity, suspicion impaired glucose tolerance, suspicion of polycystic ovary syndrome |
Please note | By evaluating the HOMA-IR, an indication of insulin resistance can be obtained even in case of inconspicuous blood glucose levels. HOMA is short for “Homeostasis Model Assessment” and is determined by the following formula: Fasting insulin in µU/ml x fasting glucose in mmol/l / 22,5 |
