Histamine in the blood
Material: | 3 ml heparin plasma The heparin blood must be centrifuged within 3 hours and the plasma sent to the laboratory. Storage in between taking blood and centrifugation at 4°C. |
Methods: | Flüssigkeitschromatographie-Massenspektrometrie (LC-MS/MS) → LC-Tandem-Massenspektrometrie | Reference range | 20 µg/l – 100 µg/l |
Indication | Asthma or urticaria following allergen exposure or provocation. Confirmation of anaphylactic reaction. |
Please note | Circulating histamine is degraded into methyl histamine (methyl imidazole acetic acid) very quickly. Accordingly, the evaluation of the metabolite in the urine should be the preferred option. A very good alternative parameter is also tryptase in serum. The day before blood taking, histamine-rich food and drinks such as cheese, salami, ham, sauerkraut, red wine, beer etc. should be avoided. |
