Hepatitis E
Material: | Antibody-demonstration: 1 ml serum PCR: 2 – 3 ml EDTA-blood 2 – 3 ml serum stool (external service) |
Methods: |
Ligandenassays → Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) Amplifikationsverfahren → Real-time-PCR Ligandenassays → Immunoblot | Criteria for evaluation | IgG: < 0,8 – 1,1 IU/ml IgM: < 0,8 IU/ml – 1,1 index Immunoblot: please refer to findings report PCR: negative |
Indication | Icterus, enteritis, travels abroad (i.e. South East Asia), brought-in infection, contact to infected persons | Mandatory reporting | ja IgM antibody demonstration in the ELISA/immunoblot as well as the direct virus demonstration by PCR are reported to the responsible health authorities by the laboratory, stating the patient’s name. |
Please note | Endemic infections are seen increasingly. Transmission is mainly by contact to pigs or by insufficiently cooked meat from wild boars or domestic pigs as carriers of the virus (zoonosis).
