Hemorrhagic fever, viral
Material: | On request. CAUTION: Please do not send any material without prior telephone consultation! | Mandatory reporting | ja Suspicions have to be reported to the local health department of the patient’s place of residence. Patients and contact persons have to be isolated. (Source: H. Schmitz DÄB, 41, page A2659, 2001) |
Please note | Suspicion of viral hemorrhagic fever is sound, when infection area and incubation time are plausible. Therefore, either recent travels to endemic areas or contact to viral hemorrhagic fever patients within the past 20 days has to have taken place. Malaria as cause for high fever should be ruled out. LDH and/or transaminases as an indication for liver participation or muscular participation should be at least slightly elevated. Signs of disturbed clotting are usually not seen in the early stages of the disease. When these conditions are met, contact with a competence centre should be sought to discuss the case. |
