Glucose metabolism diagnostics (in blood, fasting)
Material: | 2 ml sodium fluoride blood or sodium fluoride plasma (monovette tube with yellow top) The immediate centrifugation of the sodium fluoride blood and the sending of sodium fluoride plasma is the best way. Storage at 4°C is recommended (Stability in sodium fluoride plasma at 4°C – 8°C: 7 days). Whole blood without supplement is not suitable. As per the current DDG guideline, a tube with sodium fluoride and citrate for immediate glycolysis inhibition must be used for the diagnostics of gestational diabetes mellitus. For this, the S-monovette GLUCOEXACT (grey top) is available. (Please ensure that the tube is filled correctly.) |
Methods: | Spektrometrie → UV- / VIS-Photometrie | Reference range | Normal: < 100 mg/dl (< 5,6 mmol/l) Impaired fasting glucose: Manifest diabetes mellitus: Gestational diabetes: Fasting glucose: < 92 mg/dl After 60 min: < 135 mg/dl |
Indication | Suspicion of gestational diabetes |
Please note | If whole blood is taken (not recommended) instead of sodium fluoride blood or sodium fluoride plasma, there is a consumption of glucose due to the glycolysis in the erythrocytes. Storage at refrigerator temperature cannot prevent this sufficiently. An immediate centrifugation and division of the serum from the erythrocytes is required in any case. |
