Glomerular basal membrane autoantibodies
(GBM antibodies)
Material: | 1 ml serum |
Methods: | Ligandenassays → Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) | Reference range | < 7,0 U/ml |
Indication | Anti-glomerular basal membrane glomerulonephritides (approximately 2 % of all glomerulonephritides), Goodpasture syndrome, rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis (RPGN). Glomerular basal membrane antibodies are detectable in the serum of 60 % of patients with Goodpasture syndrome without lung involvement and with a prevalence of 80 – 90 % in patients with Goodpasture syndrome with lung involvement. |
Please note | Glomerular basal membrane antibodies cover antibodies against glomerular as well as alveolar basal membrane. Target antigen is the NC-1 region of the alpha-3 chain of type IV collagen, which is identical in both glomeruli and alveoli. The following tests are useful for the differential diagnostic evaluation of autoimmune glomerulonephritis: ANA, c-ANCA, p-ANCA, ds-DNA, IgA level, circulating immune complexes.
