Gliadin-antibodies (deamidated) IgA and IgG
Material: | 1 ml serum |
Methods: | Ligandenassays → Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) | Reference range | IgA: < 25 kU/l |
Indication | Suspicion of Celiac’s disease in children < 10 years of age, sprue (gluten sensitive enteropathy), dermatitis herpetiformis Duhring. Important diagnostic criteria are the typical changes in the small intestinal (jejunal) biopsies. |
Comment | Please also refer to: Endomysium antibodies (EMA), IgA and IgG |
Please note | Antibodies against deamidated gliadin or gliadin peptides are much better suited than the traditional antibodies against unchanged gliadin in terms of diagnostics for Celiac’s disease or dermatitis herpetiformis. Its specificity and sensitivity is comparable with that of antibodies against tissue transglutaminase. In case of IgA deficiency, IgG-antibodies against deamidated gliadin should be tested, which show an identic sensitivity and specificity.
