Erythrocyte morphology in the urine
Material: | 10 ml fresh urine or use urine tube with stabilisor (12 ml) (Exactobac, bacterial urine diagnostics, see shipping material order form) |
Methods: | Mikroskopie → Hellfeldmikroskopie | Reference range | ≤ 30 % dysmorphic erythrocytes (< 5 % acanthocytes) |
Indication | Differential diagnosis between renal and postrenal microhematuria |
Comment | Please also refer to: “Proteinuria diagnostics” |
Please note | In case of proteinuria, a protein differentiation in the urine with alpha-2-macroglobulin evaluation may be useful, as alpha-2-macroglobulin is not detectable in case of minor glomerular damage, however is present in postrenal lesions. Detection of alpha-2-macroglobulin in the urine therefore makes postrenal hematuria likely. |
