Cystine
Material: | 2 ml EDTA-plasma, deproteinized, frozen 10 ml of 24-hour collection urine. For further information regarding the correct way of collecting 24-hr urine, please refer to section “Collection urine/24-hr urine” (Material collection). |
Methods: | Flüssigkeitschromatographie-Massenspektrometrie (LC-MS/MS) → LC-Tandem-Massenspektrometrie | Reference range | EDTA-plasma: < 1,8 mg/dl Urine (adults): < 9 mg/0,1 g Crea (< 30 mg/d) |
Indication | Suspicion of cystinuria. Kidney stones (2 – 3 % of all kidney stones are cystine stones) |
Comment | Please also refer to Amino acids in the urine (ASU) |
Please note | We would generally recommend performing a screening test for cystinuria in all patients with nephrolithiasis, independent of the actual stone composition. In cystinuria, apart from cystine, secretion of lysine, ornithine and arginine is increased. |
