Codeine in serum, urine, gastric juice, hair
Material: | 2 ml serum 20 ml urine 20 ml gastric juices 100 g hair |
Methods: |
Gaschromatographie (GC-MS/MS) → GC-Tandem-Massenspektrometrie Flüssigkeitschromatographie-Massenspektrometrie (LC-MS/MS) → LC-Tandem-Massenspektrometrie |
Indication | Therapeutic drug monitoring |
Therapeutic range | Serum: 25 mg/l – 50 µg/l Toxic: > 200 µg/l |
Please note | Codeine is in parts metabolized into morphine. The pain-reducing effect and addiction potential of codeine is markedly less (approximately x10) than that of morphine or other opiates or opioids. Prolonged abuse leads to physical and psychological dependency. In the substitution therapy, codeine is no longer relevant. Side effects are opiate- / opioid-typical (somnolence, constipation, respiratory depression, nausea, developing a tolerance to codeine etc.). |
