Centromere autoantibodies
(Also CENP-A, CENP-B, CENP-C-antibodies)
Material: | 1 ml serum |
Methods: |
Ligandenassays → Immunoblot Ligandenassays → Immunfluoreszenzassay (IFA) | Reference range | negative |
Indication | CREST-syndrome (70 – 80 %), progressive systemic sclerosis (PSS, scleroderma, approximately 12 %), primary biliary cirrhosis (10 – 30 %), differential diagnosis in case of Raynaud-symptomatology. |
Please note | Centromere antibodies are directed against 3 main antigens and nearly always react with CENP-B. Centromere antibodies are found in PSS as well as in the limited form, the CREST-syndrome. Scl-70-antibodies are usually absent in CREST-syndrome. Rarely are they detectable in the circumscribed forms of scleroderma. The detection of centromere antibodies in persons with Raynaud-syndrome indicates the early stages of CREST-syndrome. Centromere antibodies can be found years before specific scleroderma symptoms appear. In approximately half of the patients with PBC and proof of centromere-antibodies, there are demonstrable indications of scleroderma symptomatology (such as Raynaud-syndrome).
