CEA
(Carcinoembryonic antigen)
Material: | 1 ml serum (stability in serum at 4°C – 8°C: 7 days) 1 ml puncture specimen, lithium-heparin plasma, EDTA-plasma |
Methods: | Ligandenassays → Chemilumineszenz-Immunoassay (CLIA) | Reference range | < 5,0 µg/l |
Indication | Progress checks and therapeutic monitoring of carcinomas of the colon, lung, breast, stomach, esophagus, pancreas, urinary bladder and cervix. |
Please note | CEA-levels, which are four times over the highest value of the reference range indicate, that a malignant disease is likely. Further increase in repeat tests or levels, which are eight times higher than the highest level of the normal reference range, secure a malignant disease. Increased levels can be seen in strong smokers, in case of increased alcohol consume, inflammatory diseases of the liver, pancreas, intestines and lung. These levels however very rarely exceed 15 µg/l. The CEA levels may see an increase in the first few weeks of chemotherapy. |
