C3-nephritis factor
(C3NeF)
Material: | 1 ml serum. A concurrent C3-evaluation is recommended. | Reference range | negative |
Indication | Membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis (MPGN type II), mesangio-capillary nephritis |
Please note | The C3-nephritis factor is an autoantibody, which inhibits degradation of C3- convertase of the alternative complement pathway (C3b, Bb). This leads to persisting activation and total consumption of C3, which in turn leads to a decreased clearance of immune complexes via the complement system. |
