Buprenorphine
Material: | 1 ml serum |
Indication | Therapeutic drug monitoring, also testing for drug abuse, compliance and abstinence checks |
Therapeutic range | 1 – 10 µg/l |
Please note | The metabolite norbuprenorphine is automatically determined as part of buprenorphine evaluation. Buprenorphine is a strong painkiller of the opioid analgesics group, which is also used as a substitution in heroin withdrawal therapy. Its effect on the opiate receptor is 25 – 40 times higher than that of morphine. The antidote is naloxone, same as for other opiates and opioids. The side effect spectrum is typical (vomiting, constipation, nausea, vertigo, tiredness, hypotension, respiratory depression amongst others). |
