Bartonella quintana
(previously Rochalimaea quintana)
Material: | Antibody detection: 1 ml serum, lymph node biopsy in sodium chloride DNA detection: 1 - 2 ml EDTA blood | Reference range | IgG: < 1:64 titer IgM: < 1:20 titer PCR: negative |
Indication | Bacillary angiomatosis in immunosuppressed patients, Wolhynia fever, trench fever / five-day fever |
Please note | Bacillary angiomatosis primarily occurs in HIV patients. Nevertheless, disease following organ transplant and even in immunocompetent persons has also been described. Due to the high cross-reaction between B. henselae and B. quintana, serological diagnostics of both pathogens, at least for the demonstration of IgG-antibodies, is identical. |
