Arsenic
(As)
Material: | 1 ml serum 10 ml urine 2 g hair (approximately) Please request special extraction-monovette (LH-metal-analytics) for metal evaluations in the plasma. |
Methods: | Spektrometrie → induktiv-gekoppelte Plasma-Massenspektrometrie (ICP-MS)) | Reference range | Serum: < 12,0 µg/l Urine: < 25 µg/l, BLW: 50 Hair: < 0,5 µg/g |
Indication | Exposure at the workplace (Metalworking, glassworking, pigments, pesticides). Neurotoxic symptoms. Toxicity of arsenic (AsV anorg.) is mainly based on its capillary damaging effect and leads to peripheral vascular disease, amongst others. |
Please note | Contents in urine and hair are suitable as indicators for chronic As-exposure. Fish and seafood contain relatively high As-concentrations, however rather in the form of minimal toxic, stable organic compounds. The As-concentration in the urine may exceed the stated reference range temporarily. Toxicity is dependent on the type of bond and oxidation stage of the As-compound. |
