Anti-DNA antibodies
(ds-DNA antibodies (double-stranded))
Material: | 1 ml serum |
Methods: | Ligandenassays → Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) | Reference range | < 100 IU/ml |
Indication | Active stadium of SLE (sensitivity 70 %, specificity 98 %, for progress checks of SLE) |
Please note | Constant low ds-DNA antibody titer point towards an inactive SLE with good prognosis. Sudden titer increase however suggests impending exacerbation. Evaluation of anti-ds-DNA is of utmost importance for the diagnosis of SLE, as it is very rarely found in medication-induced SLE, rheumatoid arthritis or Sjögren syndrome. In SLE patients with high antibody titers against ds-DNA, there is often kidney involvement. |
