Anti-alpha fodrin autoantibodies
Material: | 1 ml serum |
Methods: | Ligandenassays → Radioimmunoassay (RIA) | Reference range | negative |
Indication | Suspicion of primary or secondary Sjögren syndrome |
Please note | In some studies, alpha-fodrin antibodies were detected with high sensitivity (> 60 % – 93 %) and specificity (93 %) in patients with primary and secondary Sjögren syndrome. Antibody titers drop under glucocorticoid therapy. They can be detected very early and even before demonstration of Ro/SSA antibodies. Also detected in 30 % – 40 % of patients with rheumatoid arthritis and in 20 % of patients with SLE and MS. Alpha-fodrin antibodies can be found in the central nervous system plaques of MS-sufferers. These antibodies can also be found with high frequency (73 %) in moyamoya patients. Clinical relevance of alpha-fodrin antibodies with reference to early diagnosis and monitoring of Sjögren syndrome is still to be clarified. |
