Androstendion
Material: | 1 ml serum 1 m l EDTA-plasma Recommendation for test in women: Early morning blood extraction between the 3rd and 7th day of cycle (stability at 4°C – 8°C: 14 days) |
Methods: | Ligandenassays → Chemilumineszenz-Immunoassay (CLIA) | Reference range | Men: 0,5 - 3,5 µg/l Women: 0,4 - 3,4 µg/l (premenopausal) 0,1 - 2,1 µg/l (postmenopausal) |
Indication | Hyperandrogenemia |
Please note | Apart from testosterone and DHEAS, androstendion is the quantitatively most important female androgen. Androstendion is developed in the adrenal cortex and in the ovaries in more or less equal parts. Approximately half of the androstendion is converted into testosterone. Androstendion is converted into estradiol and estrone in the fatty tissue and in the granulosa cells of the ovary by the help of aromatase. |
