Alveolar glomerular basal membrane autoantibodies
(GBM-antibodies)
Material: | 1 ml serum |
Methods: | Ligandenassays → Immunfluoreszenzassay (IFA) | Reference range | < 1:10 titer |
Indication | Goodpasture syndrome (pulmonary hemorrhage, rapid progressive glomerulonephritis) |
Please note | Target antigen is the NC1 region of the alpha-3 chain of type IV collagen with epitopes from alveolar and glomerular basal membranes. Early diagnosis is very important. In case of corresponding clinical symptoms, antibody evaluation is pathognomonic, however, a negative result does not fully rule out Goodpasture syndrome, as sometimes antibodies are only found in biopsy material. High titers can persist for a long time despite therapy. 10 % of pANCA positive patients also have GBM antibodies. False positive results can show in case of SLE or diabetes mellitus. |
