Actinomycosis
(Actinomyces spp. I)
Material: | Pathogen demonstration: Abscess pus, fistula secretion, granulation tissue, secretion of percutaneous needle biopsy, transthoracic lung puncture, bronchial secretion material obtained by endoscopy, IUP with thread. Transport using transport medium (anaerobic conditions). |
Methods: | Kulturelle Untersuchungen → anaerobe Atmosphäre |
Indication | Abscesses, especially from the oral cavity and teeth, less commonly also from other locations (inguinal, urogenital, pararectal, pulmonary) |
Please note | In over 90 % of cases, actinomycosis manifests in the cervicofacial region with necrotizing abscess and fistula formations. Rarely actinomycoses are detected in the lungs, the abdominal cavity and female genitalia. It is mostly mixed infections. Analysis of the total flora is required for an effective therapy. Rarely there is a complication of hematogenic spreading with subsequent cerebral abscess. Actinomyces israelii, neuii, turicensis, radingae and naeslundii are commonly isolated species. |
