Acetone
Material: | 5 ml EDTA-blood Please request special tube for organic solvents (brown bottle with black screw top) and instructions. 10 ml urine |
Methods: | Gaschromatographie (GC-MS/MS) → GC-Massenspektrometrie | Reference range | Blood: < 10 mg/l Urine: < 3 mg/l |
Indication | Exposure at work. Suspicion of isopropanol intoxication. |
Comment | Acetone is the technically most important ketone. Usage as solvent. Absorption usually by inhalation. In case of isopropanol intoxication, acetone is the most important biotransformation product. The elimination half-life of acetone is longer than the one of isopropanol. |
