Macro prolactin
Material: | 1 ml serum |
Methods: | Agglutinationsteste → Präzipitation | Reference range | Please refer to findings report (depending on age and gender) |
Indication | Differential diagnosis: Hyperprolactinemia |
Please note | Macro prolactin is a complex from prolactin and IgG antibodies, which has only slight to no biological activity. The presence of macro prolactin can simulate hyperprolactinemia. Irrespective of the severity of the hyperprolactinemia, in 10% – 30% of cases macro prolactin development has to be expected. This is to be assumed particularly if typical symptoms of hyperprolactinemia such as galactorrhea, oligorrhea or amenorrhea of the woman or testosterone deficiency of the man are missing. |
