Transferrin
Material: | 1 ml serum |
Methods: | Spektrometrie → Nephelometrie | Reference range | 200-360 mg/dl |
Indication | Evaluation of iron status |
Please note | Transferrin is the transport protein for iron in the circulation. The concentration is enhanced by estrogens (estrogen containing contraceptives) and lowered by liver synthesis deficiency or renal protein loss. In these cases, the iron status is not validly measurable by transferrin or transferrin saturation, hence the measurement of ferritin or soluble transferrin receptor is recommended. |
