Indication | Differential diagnosis of hypertonia. Renin should always be measured together with aldosterone. |
Comment | The patient should stop taking the following drugs provided this clinically justifiable. 4 weeks before the blood sampling: Spironolactone and other aldosterone antagonists 2 weeks before the blood sampling: Diuretics, ACE inhibitors (Captopril). Renin and to extent aldosterone are influenced by large number of antihypertensive drugs such as ß-blocking agents, calcium antagonists and clonidine. 1 week before the blood sampling: Laxative agents, cortical steroids, oral contraceptive agents, lithium in high dose, antibiotics (aminoglycosides), anti-inflammatory agents, cadiac glycosides, |
