Gentamicin
Material: | 1 ml serum |
Methods: | Ligandenassays → Enzym-Multiplied-Immunoassay (EMIT) |
Indication | (Therapeutic) drug monitoring |
Therapeutic range | Through level: < 1mg/l In case of life-threatening infections up to 2 mg/l |
Please note | Gentamicin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that acts primarily synergistically with a cell wall-attacking antibiotic. For the treatment of systemic infections, it must be combined with a second, effective therapy. Potential serious side effects are mainly ototoxicity and nephrotoxicity. In aminoglycoside therapy, single administration of the total daily dose has become common practice, as it is associated with increased clinical efficacy, lower toxicity, and economic advantages. Through level should be < 1 mg/l and may be up to 2 mg/l in case of life-threatening infections. The peak level is 15 mg/l – 25 mg/l, depending on the clinical severity of the infection and the MIC (Minimum Inhibitory Concentration) of the pathogen.
