Please note | Olanzapine is an atypical neuroleptic used for the treatment of schizophrenic psychosis. It is a serotonin-dopamine antagonist and also inhibits histamine receptors, muscarine receptors and adrenalin receptors. Known side effects are weight gain (due to increased appetite, among others), sleepiness, increased levels of prolactin, cholesterol, triglycerides and glucose, dyskinesia, possibly parkinsonism, with extrapyramidal side effects being markedly less than those of classical antipsychotics. Olanzapine as all neuroleptics may significantly reduce the ability to drive, even when used as instructed. |
