Mycoplasma pneumoniae
Material: | Antibody detection: 2 ml serum PCR: Bronchial lavage, pharyngeal swab, sputum |
Methods: |
Ligandenassays → Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) Amplifikationsverfahren → Real-time-PCR | Criteria for evaluation | IgG (Adults): < 20 – 30 U/ml |
Indication | Diseases of the respiratory tract |
Please note | Incubation period 10 – 20 days. Often tracheobronchitis or other non-specific upper respiratory system illness. The course of infection with increasing age (adolescents and adults) presents as atypical pneumonia, which begins with dry cough, headaches, fever and a general feeling of illness. (Differential diagnosis: Viral pneumonia, ornithosis, Q-fever and legionellosis). Pleurisy and otitis media are possible. Occasional complication: Meningitis. Potential sequelae: chronic bronchitis, pericarditis, myocarditis, arthritis, erythema nodosum, hemolytic anemias, polyneuritis. Often concomitant cold agglutinins.
