Mycophenolate Mofetil
(Active metabolite: mycophenolic acid)
Material: | 1 ml EDTA-plasma Blood to be taken directly before next dose. |
Methods: | Ligandenassays → Enzym-Multiplied-Immunoassay (EMIT) |
Indication | Therapeutic drug monitoring |
Therapeutic range | 1,3 – 3,5 mg/l |
Please note | Mycophenolate Mofetil is an immunosuppressant and is quickly transformed into mycophenolic acid in the organism. Toxicity is markedly lower than that of cyclosporine and tacrolimus. Mycophenolic acid noncompetitively and reversibly inhibits the inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase (guanosine biosynthesis). Especially the lymphocytic proliferation is reduced by this. Serum levels however show high interindividual variability, which may necessitate monitoring. Kidney function and concomitant administration of other medication, especially other immunosuppressants are the main influencing factors. In case of gastrointestinal disorders, absorption may vary unpredictably. Potential side effects include leukopenia, increased susceptibility to infections and gastrointestinal symptoms. |
