MRSA/ORSA
(Methicillin or oxacillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus)
Material: | Swabs (wounds, nose, pharynx, armpit, groin and others, if applicable also from a culture), blood culture, urine, puncture specimen- for the cultural demonstration a swab in transport medium is required, for demonstration by PCR a dry swab (pathogen detection). |
Methods: |
Amplifikationsverfahren → Real-time-PCR Kulturelle Untersuchungen → aerober Atmosphäre |
Indication | Suspicion of MRSA colonization/infection; Screening tests (i.e. pre-admission); Progress checks after restoration. | Mandatory reporting | ja In accordance with §7 IfSG/ §2 IfSG-reporting obligation adaptation ordinance, the detection in blood or CSF is reported to the health department, stating the patient’s name. |
Please note | For the basic screening test, cultural demonstration is recommended by means of a pooled nasal/pharyngeal swab (take a swab from the pharynx and then from both nasal vestibules with the same swab). It is also possible to take separate swabs. If there are wounds, an additional wound swab would make sense. For a full evaluation, it may be necessary to swab further regions (e.g. armpits and groins, also possible as pooled swab left and right). Demonstration by means of PCR is generally also possible, but should not be used to check a restoration measure. In case of positive PCR, this must be confirmed culturally. Special tests via PCR concern the detection of a mecA or mecC gene with a corresponding question, as well as a spa typing e.g. in a hospital hygienic context. |
