Klebsiella species
(Klebsiella pneumoniae, Klebsiella oxytoca)
Material: | Pathogen demonstration: Sputum, BAL, wound swabs, blood cultures, urine |
Methods: | Kulturelle Untersuchungen → aerober Atmosphäre |
Indication | Pathogen demonstration in case of urinary tract infections, wound infections, nosocomial pneumonia, septicemia. |
Please note | Klebsiella species belong to the family of enterobacteriaceae, which belong to the normal intestinal flora and are also found in the environment. The most common representatives are Klebsiella pneumoniae and Klebsiella oxytoca. Possible infections are urinary tract infections, wound infections, severe pneumonia, especially nosocomial pneumonia, and septicemia. The clinical relevance of detection of facultative pathogenic pathogens from primary non-sterile material (Oropharynx, genital area, gastrointestinal tract) should always be evaluated by taking into account the clinical background (Infection vs. colonization). For specific resistance patterns please refer to section “MRGN”. |
